A proper introduction!
I’m Clemmie, and Wild Clementine is my jewellery business that I run from my home in Jersey, Channel Islands.
I find when I have to write about myself, suddenly I find that I have no idea where to start! I’m a lover of gemstones, being outside in nature, staying active, tarot cards, pretty dresses, tattoos, and being creative (in all its forms!). I’m also a serial rambler when it comes to writing - hence the blog - but much less so in person (unless you know me well, in which case just as much!).
Wild Clementine Jewellery was an idea that grew from my desire for a gemstone necklace, of which I could never find one that felt right for me. I wanted something sterling silver based, and recycled metal if possible, and the image I had in my mind never quite matched up with what I saw was available. Of course, being in the Channel Islands where it is always a struggle to get anything delivered here, and being the serial ‘it can’t be that hard’-aholic that I am, I gave it a go. And the rest is history!
I’ve always loved gemstones since I was a child, and choosing the beads - the colours, the stones, the metaphysical properties - is one of my favourite parts of the process. But there is perhaps nothing I love more than the actual creation process, and using my hands to make something is incredible, watching a little pile of items build and become a whole piece of jewellery is so fulfilling.
My love for nature is interwoven within every piece I make. These gemstones came from the Earth, and spent millions of years growing slowly and carefully! (Which is insanely cool). It is no surprise that a world as beautiful as ours - the flora, fauna, sunsets and sunrises, the oceans and rivers and mountains so vast - would create such amazing stones, all colours and textures. When creating each piece, I want to try and showcase the beauty of the semi-precious gemstones - that spent so much of their lives buried and growing, that we can now tangibly appreciate - as well reflecting an organic, simple but eye catching design.
All my gemstones are sourced ethically and sustainably. This is incredibly important to me, because the semi-precious and precious gemstone and metal mining businesses are very exploitive, dangerous, and often those actually pulling these gemstones from the ground are drastically ill-compensated. The silver that I use is recycled wherever possible. Unfortunately, I cannot say that it is all completed recycled, for the case of transparency, as with the ongoing shortage of silver companies are less likely to advertise and commit to wholly recycled silver. However, my chosen suppliers have robust sustainability and environmental policies that reflect my values and views and work wherever possible in an eco-friendly way.
Truth be told, I’m a bit rubbish when it comes to running a business - as often creatives are! Always loving the process (and less so the admin!). Despite loving organisation, I have to channel the ‘Knight of Pentacles’ energy when it comes to actually sitting down and doing the boring - but essential - business-stuff! As I run the business alongside my job, posting on social media and the website is a little sporadic. I do answer my emails, but always give me around 2-5 business days to get back to you!
At the moment, I’m only posting to the Channel Islands: Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Hopefully in the future I’ll be able to get all the necessary paperwork in check so that I can ship abroad - all things to work and look towards in the future! I have a few pieces available in the amazing Harriet and Rose in St. Helier, and hope to be able to find a few more lovely local stockists this year.
So that’s a little about me and the business! A lovely dream that has become reality, and I am having the best time creating beautiful pieces for you to enjoy and to become part of your everyday rituals.
Much love,
Clemmie x
